If you’ve been playing HZD, chances are you have heard of Horizon Zero Dawn Power cell or have actually seen some after playing for several hours.
These items are mysterious items and are scattered around the game world. In fact, you’ll need them to unlock a special secret set of armour, known as the Shield Weave Armour.
The armour grants players with near-invisibility alloy and completely changes gameplay for many. In summary, it is by far one of the fun and best armour in the game.
Learn how and where to get all the five Power Cells and unlock the secret for the ancient Shield-Weaver armour.
So, with enough said, here’s our guide on the Power Cell locations, How to find them in time, and how to get the invincible Shield Weaver armour.
Horizon Zero Dawn Power Cell Locations
There are five Power Cells in Horizon Zero Dawn, and you’ll need to make an impressive headway in the main story to uncover and collect them all.
However, you can collect some very early in the game- so early, that you get some after you pass the first two puzzle locks that guard the Shield Weave armour after just a couple of hours of gameplay- but this only won’t get you the armour itself.
Follow our walkthrough below on how to find them.
Note: There might be small spoilers below, in terms of location names at the minimum, as each location is visited at some point along the way during the main story quests:
Power Cell location 1: Underground Bunker from the Prologue
You can find the hidden gem here once you’ve gained control of adult Aloy and can walk the environment, after the Prologue-style missions, A Gift from the Past, with her as a child.
Go back to the location of the first steps with Aloy, which is labeled as Ruins on your mark with a green symbol, just east of Mother’s watch.
Be careful as it is quite easy to get trapped running in circles through the cavern, especially as you can re-enter it on a different level. We recommend you drop right down to the lowest level as you re-enter, and run through it in the same manner as you did with young Aloy at the beginning of the game.
Horizon Zero Dawn Mothers watch power cell can be found at the other side of some stalactites and stalacmites (they are transparent) – so you can see it through them, but will need to smash them with your Lance to get through.
It’s located at about three quarters of the way through the Ruins, and ONCE you are closer, Aloy will give a small chat wondering if she can somehow get through now that she’s older.
Power Cell location 2: All-Mother Temple
Horizon Zero Dawn all mothers Temple powercell can be accessed during or at any time after the quest: Womb of the Mountain, after the proving.
If you’re getting it at Mid quest, you will see it through two doors after you wake up, and then crouch through a small vent-like tunnel on your right to get through. If you’re re-entering the Temple, simply head in, down the slope, and straight on through the corridor that stick out to the right from the entrance hall until you reach the first circular room that is small in size. Turn left, and it’s just through there next to a kind of table.
Horizon Zero Dawn Power Cell location 3: Maker’s End
It’s recommended to get this one during the quest “Makers End”, a you’ll already have passed the tower for this mission and only need to walk a very short way further up. Otherwise, it’s a five minute walk through the building again, and it’ll need to be executed after the mission anyway.
Trek to the top of the tower, turn around to face the bronze-like spire as you come out onto the rooftop. You’ll see yellow-gold handholds used for climbing there. Use them to progress right to the very top of that spire, and the Power Cell will be waiting for you up there, along with some disgusting views..
Power Cell location 4: The Grave-Hoard
Like Maker’s End, this particular mission is not available until the mission with the title “The Grave-Hoard” or the ones after it I passed.
As soon as you enter the ruins, you must solve three spinning disc puzzles that are spread across two floors. After which you can now climb up a ledge and open a door to the front of you and to the left. The other side of that I a Power Cell, along with some Plant bearing medicinal properties, directly in front of you on the ground.
It’s really hard not to notice it! If for some unknown reason, you miss it during the mission, you can always come back to pick it up by retracing your steps.

Horizon Zero Dawn Power Cell location 5: GAIA Prime
Inside the ruins of GAIA Prime, towards the end of the main questline, you will find the last Power Cell. Once you passed the Mission: The Mountain that fell, it becomes available.
Now, the PC here is easier to miss than most of the past Cells. However, after making your way through most of the ruin and taking the item you went there in search of, you’ll come outside and use a zipline to dropdown to a lower, external, rocky area.
The waypoint will continue to tell you to head straight ahead, but immediately after dropping off the zipline, turn around 180 degrees, and you’ll catch a glimpse of a white item indicator on a raise up level.
Retrace your steps a few yards back, and there’s a yellow-tinged handhold on the rock face, and a few more above. Climb up a short way, and you’ll discover a purple-lit entrance into a small cave in the side of the mountain. Behind that is the Power Cell on a shelf to the right.
Ancient Armory Glitch- How to get the ancient Shield Weave armour in Horizon Zero Dawn
To collect and wield the Shield Weave armour itself, you’ll need to locate and collect all five of the Power Cell, go to the bunker where it’s hidden, and solve the two puzzles.
Once you pick your first Power Cell, the location of the bunker is marked on your map. Immediately, a quest will activate- known as Ancient Armory- and you can then at least access the underground cave, which is really an ancient ruin, which serves as a house for the armour.
I and my team tried this out and this armour allows you take on total beating. It is worth the wait.
Inside, you’ll be faced with two of the disc-spinning door puzzles that are commonly found in these ancient ruins during the main questline. Both of these require Power Cells to really activate, the first two Cells, and the other three.
The first puzzle
, once power is restored, is solved by turning the discs to point in the direction highlighted by the pink box nearby, which is shown in day time. From left to right, they go: Up, Right, Down, Left, Up.
The second puzzle
, once restored, is solved by turning the discs to face the direction the pink box indicated that uses degrees to communicate the directions. From left to right, they go: Right, Left, Up, Right, Left.
Once this task is completed, the armour is FREE for the Taking! Go back into the central room where the door will now be open to the Shield-Weave armour. Pick it up, and then open the box in your inventory and equip yourself with the many benefits.
Now that you’ve learnt lots of things about Horizon Zero Dawn Power Cell, its time to learn how it works. With the protective armour equipped, you will be totally invincible, to a point. At that point, you will receive damage as normal, but you just have to avoid combat for a few seconds, and it will recharge, transforming itself into that white glowing shield to indicate your invulnerability.
